How to Increase Battery Life |
 |
Follow the next steps in order to increase battery life of yor netbook. Even if you are not charging/discharging it, but it just sits in the netbook while you are working and its always on charger, your battery will slowly reduce its capacity. Also, eee-control is there for you, so use it. You don't always need full performance. |
Steps when you are home
- When you are not using your battery, remove it from netbook. Netbooks can run on charger without the battery.
- Charge/discharge your battery to 40%
- Put it into a plastic bag and store it in refrigerator
- Take it out only when you need it
Resons for this? Batheries like cool places, and LithiumIon batteries don't like to be discharged too much. Research has shown that it's the best to have your battery on 40% and store it in refrigerator (not freezer). More than 40% and battery will have higher temperature inside of it, thus reducing its battery life.
When you are on the road and need your battery
- Use eee-control to reduce the performance according to what you need.
- Turn off your webcam or wifi if you are not using them
- Dim the display
- Don't discharge battery until your computer shuts down
Reasons? By using eee-control, you can downclock CPU. For example, Full performance on 701 means it works on 900MHz, and powersave means it works on 633MHz. This way its battery can last much longer. Screens also consume a lot of power, and its good to have them dimmed a bit. LiIon batteries are quite unlike NiCd batteries, and over all the advantages, their performances decrease when they are fully discharged. Powering off computer when it is on 5% can prevent damaging your battery. |
