Installation Support for v10 4G (in Serbian)

Q:
I have a problem with install the os in asus eee pc 4g, I try it with v8 lxde 2g. when it arrives near the end …go in crash???
maybe v8 lxde 2g it is not suitable for this tipe of pc ( asus eee pc 4g)???

A:
Did you during the installation choose some other language than English? English is the only option, and after installation the system language can be changed.
Q:
yes, I have tried in Italian. jestedrday I tried in english and he was go in crash too…. at the finish, I send to you fotos.
A:
PAE…”

Skype audio and 64b and 32b editions

Q:

I currently run V8 XFCE deluxe on my EeePc 904HA When trying to upgrade with V10 XFCE I get following error message: This kernel requires an x86-64CPU, but only detected an i686CPU Unable to boot – please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU.

A:

The new XFCE edition is 64b, and your CPU is only capable of 32b, thus you can only upgrade to LXDE edition. The benefit is that it is a lot faster. If you still prefer XFCE environment, it is not a problem to install it afterwards, after you install LXDE edition.

Q:

now I’m running version LXDE. Seems to run OK. One problem I found, There is no sound and microphone activated for Skype. Under sound devices is ”virtual device” as default option. I tried also my micro/headphone combi, but without succes. I couldn’t find a sound device control in Leeenux.

A:

The sound settings are going by the name ALSA. I will try to see how to set up everything correctly in Skype and post the procedure online.

Q:

Sorry for the late reply, but I was not able to reproduce the issue with skype, because on my netbook everything works fine.

First try: sudo apt-get install libpulse0:i386

If after restart that does not work try: sudo apt-get install –reinstall linux-image-$(uname -r)

And if it still does not work, this should do the trick, although it is a lot of installing/reinstalling:

sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade; sudo apt-get install pavucontrol linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils lightdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; sudo apt-get -y –reinstall install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils lightdm ubuntu-desktop linux-image-`uname -r` libasound2; killall pulseaudio; rm -r ~/.pulse*; ubuntu-support-status; sudo usermod -aG `cat /etc/group | grep -e ‘^pulse:’ -e ‘^audio:’ -e ‘^pulse-access:’ -e ‘^pulse-rt:’ -e ‘^video:’ | awk -F: ‘{print $1}’ | tr ‘\n’ ‘,’ | sed ‘s:,$::g’` `whoami`

OS installation and partitioning

Q:

I downloaded and attempted to install Leeenux 10 on my Asus eeePC 4G (701) but there’s a problem. I followed the installation instructions, choosing “…for Pentium M or Celeron M” from the Unetbootin menu. After a rather long delay, a graphic desktop appeared with a message box saying “No session for pid xxx”, where xxx was some number. After just a couple of seconds, the display blanks for several minutes, then the process repeats (for several hours so far), each time with a different pid number. Any idea what’s gone wrong?

A:

Please download the file again, maybe iso got corrupt. I also have eee 701, so I know it works on it. Do use only 4G edition. Also, if the bios is set to OS start, change it to OS finished, and vice versa.
If it still does not work, this is the solution:
When the problem occurs, do CTRL+ALT+F1, and log-in with username: eee, password is blank, and do:

sudo mv ~/.Xauthority ~/.Xauthority.backup sudo service lightdm restart

Q:

Thank you for your advice, which did solve the problem. I first downloaded a second copy of the ISO file, but it was identical to the first copy. I then changed the OS Installation setting from Start to Finished and that enabled the Live session to start up. I installed Leeenux 10 on the SSD, but somehow set up the partition incorrectly. On a second attempt I looked for options when creating the partition and must have chosen the right ones as the machine is now working properly. Perhaps you could include some advice on specifying the partition in the installation instructions to help other users?

32b and 64b editions

Q:

When I went to boot from the USB stick, I received an error message saying that I was trying to install a 64-bit OS on a 32-bit system.

A:

Yes, you cannot install Leeenux XFCE because it is 64b OS, while your netbook has 32b CPU. LXDE edition is 32b and you can install it. Download LXDE iso file.

Leeenux base OS

Q:

Is your new version based on Ubuntu 16.04 ?

A:

Yes, it is.

Update & Upgrade

Q:

Just a simple question. Is it safe to do ‘apt-get update; apt-get upgrade’ with Leeenux Linux? Or is it better to stay with the preinstalled software and wait for a new version?

A:

It is safe, however it will install the latest kernel, and leave the previous one installed, as all Ubuntu based linuxes do. After upgrade you can safely remove the old kernel, as it takes up at least 200MB, if space is the issue.
